Movement 1: Introit Prelude

Examining the Theme and Historical Context through the Text/Music:

This prelude is a musical introduction to the work. It starts off slowly and gently, but gradually increases in tempo and intent. Voices are used in an instrumental style in this movement. They add a haunting, yet lyrical quality to the timbres of the instruments as all seem to ebb and flow with restrained introspection yet sublime intensity.
